Heating Safety Tips

(12/6/2023) With the colder weather comes the increased risks of fires caused by heating equipment. Did you know that heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fire deaths? Winter Termination Program

(12/5/2023) The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs has implemented a Winter Termination Program (WTP) to prevent discontinuation for eligible residential costumers receiving residential electric, sewer, and water service from a local authority, municipal authority or rural electric cooperative from November 15th through March 15th. SRH&PS Meeting

(11/22/2023) The South River Historical & Preservation Society will host its 2023 annual meeting at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 29th at the South River Museum (64-66 Main Street). The meeting will showcase pieces of local history in a show-and-tell format. Attendees are invited to bring an item - a personal memory or story will do just fine! Please join us as we finish out our program year and celebrate the society's 35th anniversary. The meeting is free to the public and refreshments will be served. SRPD Holiday Angel Tree

(11/20/2023) The South River Police Department is partnering with the South River Council of Congregations to bring a Holiday Angel Tree to South River. This is the perfect opportunity to make a less fortunate child's holiday season a little brighter. Interested in helping? simply visit the tree in the lobby of Police Headquarters (61 Main Street), select a gift recipient of your choice from the tree, shop for the child based on their preferences, then drop the gift(s) off by December 15th. The South River Police Department will then arrange to have the child receive the gift(s) from Santa! SRH&PS Meeting

(9/26/2023) The South River Historical & Preservation Society will host its next meeting and program on Wednesday, September 27th. As a lead-in to the United States Semiquincentennial in 2026, historian Donald Johnstone Peck will present a program featuring remembrances of the critical year 1776, from the arrest of Royal Governor William Franklin to the Battles of Trenton and Princeton. D.J. Peck is the author of A Spirited War: George Washington and the Ghosts of the American Revolution in Central New Jersey and four other books about the history of Central New Jersey. The event takes place at the South River Museum (64-66 Main Street) on Tuesday, September 27th at 7:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact the SRH&PS.

Blue Acres Program Update

(8/26/2022) Homeowners can now submit Blue Acres buyout applications online. The new portal allows homeowners to express their interest in a flood buyout. Printed applications can still be submitted by mail. For more information, visit the Blue Acres webpage.

Residents can now subscribe to the Blue Acres email list to receive updates and alerts about buyout progress, post-buyout land use, funding awards and availability, climate resilience planning resources, and related events in communities across the state.

Senior Health & Fitness Walk

(8/25/2022) The Middlesex County Office of Aging and Disabled Services will hold their annual Senior Health & Fitness Walk on Wednesday, September 21st from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Roosevelt Park in Edison. The event includes wellness information, health screenings, boxed lunches, raffles, t-shirts, and entertainment. Registration is required by September 7th. Drought Watch

(8/9/2022) The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Drought Watch as persistent dry and hot conditions continue to stress water supplies throughout the state. If conditions do not improve, declaration of a drought warning or a drought emergency with mandatory water use restrictions may become necessary. Voluntary conservation measures during a Drought Watch can help to avoid more serious and restrictive drought conditions. Plastic Bag Ban

(2/25/2022) New Jersey's plastic bag ban goes into effect on May 4th. South River residents can receive three (3) reusable South River grocery bags from the South River Department of Public Works.
