About Us

Parks & Recreation is responsible for running a wide variety of recreation programs, sports programs, fitness classes, and special events in the Borough of South River throughout the year. The department also works in conjunction with the Department of Public Works to oversee the management and maintenance of all public parks in the borough.

Sports Programs

Year-round sports programs are offered for children ages 5 to 16. Sports programs include basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, wrestling, and t-ball. For information on the latest ones available, view the flyer(s) above.

Fitness Classes

Fitness classes are available to all resident and non-resident adults. For information on the latest ones available, view the flyer(s) above. 

Free Summer Recreation Program

Each summer, children who have completed 1st grade through 8th grade are invited to attend our free summer recreation program. It includes a wide variety of gym activities, indoor & outdoor games, and arts & crafts.

Special Events

Our special events throughout the year include the Spring Egg Hunt, Fishing Derby, Summer Fireworks, House Decorating Contests, Halloween Party, Trunk-or-Treat, Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, and Holiday Party.

Seasonal Employment Opportunities

Seasonal employment opportunities are available to South River High School students. Applications can be picked up at the recreation office. Applicants must maintain good academic standing in order to be considered for employment.
